Volkswagen “Spaces”

Volkswagen brand campaign for their commercial vehicles lineup.

Description

It was one of those rare, warm autumns in Estonia — soft golden light, stable weather, and just enough atmosphere to make Volkswagen commercial vehicles look cinematic without forcing it. The brief, however, was anything but simple. This production required multiple creative camera riggings to everyday props, including a full POV build inside a flower pot. When the camera becomes part of the object, there’s no room for unstable builds or second takes caused by technical issues. Every rig had to be clean, safe, and invisible to the audience.

Key Grip on the project was our long-time partner Indrek Raag, and together we engineered a series of custom mounts that allowed the camera to live inside the scene rather than observe it. In addition to the prop-based builds, we executed dynamic tracking shots using the Motocrane Ultra system and integrated Steadicam work to maintain fluid movement across outdoor terrain. The challenge wasn’t just movement — it was making transitions between different systems feel seamless while keeping the shooting schedule intact during limited autumn daylight.

This project also marked an important milestone for us: the first real-world use of our Whip.Pan.Cake prototype. It was developed from practical on-set needs, and instead of testing it in theory, we put it straight into production. It performed under real pressure, in real conditions — the only test that truly matters.

The result was a series of technically demanding shots that feel effortless on screen. Complex POV angles, stable tracking movement, fast resets, and no compromise on safety or efficiency. A big thank you to DoP Ekkehart Pollack for the trust and collaboration.
