This one was fun. And slightly insane — in a good way.
The DoP wanted a continuous move that started as a clean dolly-in… and then did something it’s not really supposed to do. The camera would travel forward on one track, seamlessly transition onto a second track laid perpendicular to the first, and then continue sideways. No cuts. No cheats. Just one precise, controlled move.
Our Key Grip Arvid took the lead on this mechanical puzzle.
To make the transition smooth and stable, the final track section was mounted on another track using Panther Boogie wheels — effectively creating a controlled, mobile platform that allowed lateral movement without compromising stability.
In simple terms: track on track on track.
On top of that, we rigged a dropping barrel effect that had to feel natural, safe, and repeatable. Timing was critical — it had to interact with the camera move without interfering with it. The barrel drop was fully controlled, rehearsed, and secured to ensure both safety and continuity between takes.
The result? A technically complex shot that feels effortless on screen. The camera glides forward, shifts direction seamlessly, and the action unfolds exactly on cue — no visible mechanics, no distractions.
The kind of shot that looks simple.
The kind that absolutely isn’t.
